Premium Insurance Caps is a comprehensive multivitamin and mineral formula for an active lifestyle: 12 vitamins in well-absorbed forms (such as 5-MTHF folate, methylcobalamin, P-5-P), amino acid chelate minerals, bioflavonoids, quercetin and digestive enzymes – iron-free. Vitamins B1, B2, B6 and B12, niacin, pantothenic acid, vitamin C and magnesium contribute to normal energy-yielding metabolism; vitamins C and D, zinc and selenium contribute to the normal function of the immune system.
Available in 120- and 210-capsule sizes. Part of the Daily Essential Kit Plus.
Free from banned substances.
Regular training demands more vitamins and minerals than most people can cover with their diet alone. Premium Insurance Caps is a comprehensive multivitamin and mineral formula for athletes and active people: it contains 12 vitamins, 10 minerals and several complementary ingredients (bioflavonoids, quercetin, phospholipids, digestive enzymes).
It is one of Hammer Nutrition's daily foundation supplements – and part of both the Daily Essential Kit and the Daily Essential Kit Plus.
1–7 capsules a day with meals, depending on your training volume: for most adults training less than 8–10 hours a week, 3–4 capsules a day; with more than 10 hours of training a week, 7 capsules a day, split between two meals. Allow 2–3 hours between taking them and the start of your workout.
The 120- and 210-capsule sizes are not exactly proportional in composition – you'll find both in separate tables on the Nutritional Information tab. The product is not vegan (the vitamin D3 is derived from lanolin). If you take medication, have a known medical condition, or are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before use.
In our view, Premium Insurance Caps, Race Caps Supreme, Mito Caps and EndurOmega together provide the most comprehensive foundation for both athletic performance and overall health. They are the cornerstones of the Hammer Nutrition range – it's worth taking them every day, on training days and rest days alike.
Better value as a kit: Daily Essential Kit, Daily Essential Kit Plus.
We see five main reasons:
The vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) it contains is derived from lanolin, the fat from sheep's wool. The capsule shell is made from plant cellulose.
MFG is the manufacture date. Premium Insurance Caps keeps its quality for 4 years from the manufacture date if you store it away from heat, direct sunlight and moisture. Once opened, use within 6 months.
There's no collagen supplement in the range, but several Hammer products contain nutrients that are important for connective tissue:
In our view, most people get enough iron from a varied diet, and excess iron is undesirable. Iron intake is best assessed individually: iron deficiency is more common in women, vegetarians, vegans and high-mileage runners.
A simple blood test (complete blood count, ferritin) shows your iron status; decide on iron supplementation based on that, together with your doctor.
It's the vitamin B2 (riboflavin) – the 7-capsule serving contains 100 mg of it. Your body excretes unused riboflavin in your urine, which turns it bright yellow. This is completely normal and harmless.
Yes. Vitamin B5 is pantothenic acid, which is present in the product as calcium D-pantothenate: the 7-capsule serving contains 100 mg, the 4-capsule serving 49 mg.
In our view, no. The 7-capsule serving contains 269 mg of vitamin E (d-alpha-tocopheryl succinate), about 38 mg per capsule. If you take Premium Insurance Caps together with Race Caps Supreme and Mito Caps (4 + 2 + 2 capsules a day), that adds up to about 348 mg of vitamin E a day.
The optimal daily intake (ODI) we cite is 400–1200 IU (about 270–800 mg); it recommends 400–800 IU for general health and up to 1200 IU for athletes. Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress. If you take anticoagulants, check with your doctor before use.
Yes. Hammer Nutrition supplements are manufactured in accordance with the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements set out in Part 111 of Title 21 of the US Code of Federal Regulations (21 CFR 111) enforced by the FDA: the raw materials and every step of production are tested, and the composition of the finished products is verified by laboratory analysis.
In the case of a fracture, always follow your doctor's instructions. In our experience, the following nutrients may deserve extra attention at such times – check their use with your doctor:
Also available as a kit: Bone Health Kit.
B vitamins have a distinctive, “medicinal” smell, and betaine HCl smells distinctly fishy. That's why the latest formula has a stronger smell, sometimes reminiscent of fish – this is normal and doesn't mean the product has gone off.
In our view, the nutrient content of today's food (due to soil depletion, processing and storage) often falls short of what it used to be, while regular training increases your need for vitamins and minerals, and you also lose them through sweat. So even with a carefully planned diet, it's hard to get enough of everything every day.
A varied, whole-food diet always comes first – a multivitamin complements it, it doesn't replace it.
In our view, athletes need somewhat more manganese than non-athletes: manganese takes part in the energy-producing enzyme reactions of muscle cells and contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress (it is a component of the antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase). Your body uses it up during exercise and also loses it through sweat, and only a small part (about 3–5%) of orally ingested manganese is absorbed.
Premium Insurance Caps contains about 1.07 mg of manganese per capsule (7.5 mg in 7 capsules). Manganese content of Hammer products:
Due to changes in US labelling rules, vitamins must now be listed in mg or µg (in the EU this has always been the case). The product's composition hasn't changed – only the unit. Conversions:
The 7-capsule serving contains 42 mg and the 4-capsule serving 24 mg of vitamin B6, in the form of pyridoxal-5'-phosphate (P-5-P). Citing the tolerable upper intake level of 100 mg a day set by the US Institute of Medicine, we do not consider this amount a concern.
It's important to know that in 2023 the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) set the tolerable upper intake level of vitamin B6 for adults at 12 mg a day. If you also take other products containing B6, or have previously had nervous system symptoms (numbness, tingling, neuropathy), check with your doctor before use. If such symptoms occur, stop taking it.
Dosage: 1–7 capsules a day with meals, as follows:
Vitamin A (beta-carotene) – A plant-derived provitamin that your body converts into vitamin A as needed. Vitamin A contributes to the maintenance of normal vision, normal mucous membranes and normal skin, and to the normal function of the immune system.
Vitamin B1 (thiamin) – Contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism and to the normal functioning of the nervous system.
Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) – Contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism, to the protection of cells from oxidative stress and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
Niacin (niacinamide) – Contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism, to the maintenance of normal skin and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxal-5'-phosphate) – The active form of vitamin B6. Contributes to normal protein and glycogen metabolism, to the normal function of the immune system and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
Folate (5-MTHF) – The active, methylated form of folate. Contributes to normal blood formation, to the normal function of the immune system and to maternal tissue growth during pregnancy.
Vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin) – An active form of B12. Contributes to normal red blood cell formation, to normal energy-yielding metabolism and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
Biotin and pantothenic acid – Both contribute to normal energy-yielding metabolism; biotin also contributes to the maintenance of normal hair and skin, and pantothenic acid to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
Vitamin C (calcium ascorbate) – A buffered form that is gentle on the stomach. Contributes to maintaining the normal function of the immune system during and after intense physical exercise, to normal collagen formation and to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) – Contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and normal muscle function, and to the normal function of the immune system.
Vitamin E (d-alpha-tocopheryl succinate) – Vitamin E from a natural source, which contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
Most of the minerals in the product are in amino acid chelate (AAC) form: minerals bound to amino acids are well absorbed and gentle on the stomach.
Calcium and magnesium – Contribute to normal muscle function and to the maintenance of normal bones; magnesium also contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
Zinc, selenium, copper – Contribute to the normal function of the immune system and to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
Manganese – Contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism and to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
Chromium (chromium chelate) – Contributes to the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels and to normal macronutrient metabolism.
Iodine (kelp) – Contributes to the normal production of thyroid hormones and to normal energy-yielding metabolism.
Potassium and boron – Potassium contributes to normal muscle function; boron is a trace element.
Citrus bioflavonoids and quercetin – Plant polyphenols that we added to the formula as companions to vitamin C and for their antioxidant properties.
Phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylserine – Natural phospholipids of cell membranes; phosphatidylcholine is a source of choline.
Inositol, PABA, betaine HCl – B-vitamin-like nutrients; betaine HCl releases hydrochloric acid, which is a natural component of stomach acid.
Digestive enzymes – Pepsin, bromelain (from pineapple), papain (from papaya) and a blend of eight enzymes (protease, amylase, glucoamylase, lipase, cellulase, phytase, maltase, sucrase) to break down proteins, carbohydrates and fats.
BioPerine™ – Black pepper extract (piperine), which we use to support nutrient absorption.
