Race Day Boost phosphate loading capsules are made for the key races of your season: on each of the four days before the race, you take 4 capsules four times a day, each serving providing 1000 mg of trisodium phosphate – following the protocol used in sports science studies. We developed it to target all three energy systems, and malic acid makes it gentler on your stomach. Phosphorus contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism. Vegan, gluten-free.
Race Day Boost is also part of the Race PR Kit.

Race Day Boost is built on the phosphate loading method: on each of the four days before your race, you take a 4-capsule serving four times a day, each providing 1000 mg of trisodium phosphate. We based this dosing on the protocol used in sports science studies.
We developed it to target all three of your body’s energy systems: short, explosive efforts (the ATP–creatine phosphate system), higher-intensity efforts that come with acid build-up, and long, aerobic efforts. Phosphate loading is researched mainly for its role in buffering the acid produced during exercise and for 2,3-DPG (2,3-diphosphoglycerate), which plays a part in releasing oxygen to your muscles.
Phosphorus contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism and to normal function of cell membranes.
Runners, cyclists, triathletes and all endurance athletes – before the most important (“A”) races of the season and before multi-day events. Race Day Boost doesn’t provide energy or electrolyte replacement: during the race, Hammer Gel, HEED or Perpetuem, and Endurolytes take care of those.
Race Day Boost is also part of the Race PR Kit, alongside Anti-Fatigue Caps and Energy Surge.
Phosphate loading means taking small doses of sodium phosphate several times a day for a few days before a race. The method has been researched in endurance athletes for decades; we matched the dosing of Race Day Boost (4 × 1 g a day for 4 days) to the protocol used in the studies.
Research looks at two main mechanisms: phosphate buffers the acids (hydrogen ions) produced during exercise, and it may increase the amount of 2,3-DPG in your red blood cells, which helps hemoglobin release oxygen to your working muscles. Individual responses can vary, so try it before a less important race first.
One 4-capsule serving contains 1000 mg of trisodium phosphate, providing 440 mg of sodium (equivalent to about 1.1 g of salt). The 4 daily servings during loading therefore add up to 1760 mg of sodium a day (about 4.4 g of salt), or 7040 mg in total over the four days.
Most people already take in more sodium than they need, so cut back on the salt in your diet on loading days. If you have high blood pressure, kidney or heart disease, or follow a low-sodium diet, be sure to consult your doctor before use.
Yes, in the recommended amounts. Trisodium phosphate is an authorised food ingredient in the EU (E339) and is Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) in the United States. Its acute toxicity measured in rats (LD50: 7400 mg/kg body weight) is lower than that of baking soda (4220 mg/kg body weight) or table salt (3000 mg/kg body weight).
Perpetuem also contains a small amount of sodium phosphate. Don’t exceed 16 capsules a day, and always take your loading doses with meals and plenty of water.
Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) loading may help mainly with short, very intense efforts, and less so in longer races. The usual dose is 0.3–0.4 g/kg body weight – 22.5–30 g for a 75 kg athlete – taken 60–90 minutes before the start. In studies, 63–100% of participants experienced digestive upset, and since baking soda is about 27% sodium, that dose means 6–8 g of sodium in one go.
That’s why we chose trisodium phosphate: four days of loading split into small doses targets all three energy systems and is much gentler. In the 1992 study by Kreider et al. (4 × 1 g sodium phosphate a day for 4 days), power output and oxygen uptake in a 40 km time trial both improved by about 17%, and time-trial times by about 8%.
In our experience, a kind of “tolerance” can develop with phosphate loading: if you use it too often, the effect may be smaller. That’s why we recommend it 4–6 times a year, for the most important races of your season – and try it before a less important race or a hard workout first.
Trisodium phosphate is strongly alkaline. Malic acid – which also occurs naturally in apples and other fruits – balances this out, reducing the chance of stomach upset. Malic acid is also an intermediate of the cells’ energy-producing cycle (the citric acid, or Krebs, cycle).
Yes. Race Day Boost is part of the Race PR Kit, alongside Anti-Fatigue Caps and Energy Surge. In multi-day events, take one of your daily maintenance doses with Recoverite recovery drink. You still need to take care of your energy and electrolyte replenishment during the race.
Yes. Our supplements are manufactured in accordance with US dietary supplement manufacturing regulations (21 CFR 111): every raw material used is tested for purity, potency, identity and integrity, and they are checked at every stage of production – blending, encapsulation, packaging materials, finished product – before they go on sale.
MFG is the manufacture date. The product keeps its quality for 4 years from the manufacture date if you store it in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight and excessive heat. After opening, always close the lid tightly and use within 6 months.
Use Race Day Boost for the key races of your season – 4–6 times a year.
